Lead by example not opinion
We are weeks into the pandemic & cracks are beginning to show in our culture now. Systemic inequality has been exposed as the realities set in. Government relief packages are a good first step & more is definitely needed.
This pandemic is testing our values as a society & we need to start talking about it more. We need to lead if we can & help build our society up not rip it down.
We can develop solutions together and keep our communities strong, modeling the behavior we want others to adopt & show an abundance of love & compassion which is stronger than fear. Women rock at this! 💥
Here are a few simple ideas to lead by example & continue to care for ourselves & our wider world as we navigate Covid-19:
Flatten the curve. Stay home. Look after yourself. Replace handshakes with waves, hand on heart, namaste, etc.
Check on elderly neighbors. This isolation is lonely & not everyone can tolerate it. My mom is a rock star and does not mind but my father in law hates it & is feeling depressed. Face time. Walk by & wave. Drop off soup if you can. Send funny memes.
Safely volunteer. Shop & drop groceries for those unable to go out. Start a neighbor watch group & call list. Deliver flyers to let people know there are resources to help.
Counter xenophobia & racism. Help stop the fear & abuse by educating people & correct racist comments or behavior when you see or hear it. Disease will make anyone sick regardless of origin or ethnicity.
Combat misinformation online! This is a big one. There is allot of incorrect info digitally floating around ~ if you see it, report it to the platform you are on & private message others who may be sharing it. Find trusted sources only & then limit your time.
If you are a landlord & can afford it consider rent payment relief for those that need it. Do not evict if you can possibly avoid this.
Fundraise for those in need securely & use the money to purchase supplies & deliver. Email & text grassroots can work as well for new immigrants, single parents, seniors in your community, etc.
Stop hoarding TP! Lol
Remember the world is changed by your example not by your opinion!
Stay safe & wash your hands!!
