Rebel Read

Whatever we fear usually doesn’t become reality, and yet we waste so much of our energy on worrying. It’s such a waste of our time, talents, and potential.” ― Ken Honda

Happy Money | The Japanese Art of Making Peace with Your Money | Ken Honda | 2020 | Non Fiction

  • Over the years I have read many books on the subject of money and personal money management from the Wealthy Barber to I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What It Was to Smart Women Finish Rich to The Psychology of Money and The Simple Path to Wealth - all of these were great but there was something fresh and decidedly Zen about Honda’s book

  • To start with he is Japan’s #1 bestselling personal development guru writing on topics of finance and self-help, focusing on creating and generating personal wealth and happiness through deeper self-honesty

  • The author feels that money is a source of fear, stress, and anger for many, often breaking apart relationships and even ruining lives and that getting rich quick is no way to achieve happiness

  • In his book he illustrates how to change your relationship with money by treating it as a ‘welcome guest—allowing it to come and go with respect without questioning its motives or resenting its fluctuations’ - I love this metaphor

  • He dives into understanding and improving your money EQ, looking behind the myth of scarcity, and embracing the process of giving money along with receiving it

  • He clearly explains how to achieve a peace of mind when it comes to money, and how to decide which path you should take towards happiness

  • I love the quote on the back of the book “This book isn’t here to fix you, because as Ken Honda says, you’re already okay!”

  • I also love the parallel to Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up for your living space to Honda’s Happy Money and how this book will change your feelings about your wallet

  • I really enjoyed this book and how it shifted the narrative from fear and uncertainty around money to respectful opportunity and transformation, how you feel about yourself, energy and your own consciousness - you can read more about it here
