How Our Thoughts Can Stop Us Cold
“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” — Abraham Maslow

The new year is always a great time to reflect on our thoughts and check in to see if they are helping us grow and move forward or if they are slowing us down and possibly stopping us - I am talking about ‘limiting beliefs’
Limiting beliefs are attitudes that we have accumulated throughout our lives and approximately 90% are subconscious - meaning that most of them are not true
These ‘false beliefs’ prevent us from pursuing our goals and desires and often we end up idling on the sidelines not sure how we got there or even worse - how the hell to get the engine started again!
Your limiting beliefs can prevent you from pursuing a new job, going back to school, ending a difficult relationship, mending broken family ties, starting a side hustle, retiring and more
Our limiting beliefs can put boundaries on what we perceive to be reasonable behavior and can be related to yourself, about the world and about life
Remember - your thoughts are just thoughts - not reality - you can change your response to your thoughts or how much attention you give them - the power is in your response
Ask yourself this question ‘is believing this thought helpful for me right now’? What came up for you? Challenge your thought pattern, reframe it and realize that thought is not you - start being aware of the thoughts that do not serve you and kick them to the curb where they belong!
Try these steps:
Acknowledge your self-limiting beliefs and be super honest with yourself
Go deeper into what you discovered & reflect/journal
Find the common thread in your limiting beliefs
Sit with these new thoughts and rewrite the belief
Reprogram your beliefs & visualise the new belief
Remind yourself daily and continue to take aligned action
