Are You a Positive Self-Talker?
"I’m just digging this time. There should be another term besides “midlife crisis,” everyone likes to say she/he is having a midlife crisis. I’d love to rebrand some version of that where you start having a midlife discovery or breakthrough.” — Amy Poehler
I have been noodling over positive self-talk and how it impacts us. Last week I was talking about limiting beliefs and how our thoughts have the power to stop us cold AND how we can also have power OVER our thoughts by asking ourselves a simple question -’is believing this thought helpful for me right now?’
Making positive statements to yourself can help you build confidence, improve performance, and improve your mental skills. The reason I am digging into this a bit more right now is because many of you have crafted resolutions and you may possibly be feeling crappy about them.
Remember our subconscious mind can’t tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined! Think of it this way - your subconscious takes pictures and thoughts that you have and then works hard to create it as reality and once you direct an image or visualization to your subconscious brain, it will work tirelessly to make that image a reality - coming up with all sort of creative plans to make those thoughts true for your life.
So choose your self-talk very carefully because your subconscious brain takes whatever you send it as real and remember to cut yourself some slack on your resolutions or goals that you outlined - it is ok to go slowly, shift gears or change plans - this is your life and no one else’s so make it work for you!
