Ideas for Giving this Holiday Season

My Rebel Holiday Musing

“All I want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share.
— Sally Brown, Charlie Brown’s younger sister

One of our favorite things to do as a family during this season is to watch the old classics like Frosty or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - but the one that I love more and more each year is A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Why?

Because Charlie is fatigued and disenfranchised by the whole commercialism of the season - even his independent pal Snoopy is in on it, winning first Prize for the best decorations! I know how Charlie feels because the jingle of the HoHoHo starts after Halloween and the pressure to spend spend spend creeps in earlier and earlier.

So I have gathered a short list of ideas for you that focuses more on giving and serving others than on just spending for spending sake. I hope one of these lands on your list this year ;]

Here it is:

  • December is Universal Human Rights month started in 1948 - people all across the globe are encouraged to come together and stand up for equality, justice, and the dignity of all humans. The best way we can celebrate is by working to find common ground with those around us who may not have the same background as we do - we are all born into the same world, we are all humans, and our different races, religions, beliefs, and cultures shouldn't divide us. So go out of your way to treat everyone with respect, kindness, and equality; read a book on human rights and gently remind others why it is so important

  • December is National giving Month - find a local charity and support it by volunteering your time or donating - kindness is free and it feels good to give. You can even sign the Proclamation if you are so inclined

  • Operation Santa Paws for our furry friends who need help - shelters and rescue groups all over the world need help for abused and abandoned pets this season and all year around. Consider volunteering or donating to bring some holiday cheer to dogs and cats waiting for forever homes in your local shelters

  • Today, December 12th, is National Jumper Day for Save the Children, so get in on the fun and wear your favorite Christmas sweater, I know I will! You can also donate to Save the Children to help make lasting change for kids all over the world! Find your local chapter and consider donating this season

  • December 15th is Lemon Cupcake Day lol so I am sharing a recipe with you! Pass it on! Yummy!
