Fear Mindset + 10 Strategies to Explore

** Hello all - this post was written on Halloween so keep this mind as you read as there is a Halloween vibe that runs through it **

  • Since this is the season when the veil is thin and the spirits are roaming, I thought I would tackle the mindset around ‘FEAR’

  • What is fear or how would you define it?

    • Beside what goes ‘thump’ in the middle of the night, the Cambridge Dictionary defines fear as ‘an unpleasant emotion or thought that you have when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful or bad that is happening or might happen’

    • That covers allot of ground, but gets at the kernel of wisdom here which is ‘that it is a thought or emotion’

    • Fear of course lives in the oldest part of our wonderful brains - the amygdala - and it is the main emotion that this part of the brain controls and is key to our survival

    • As part of the limbic system - an ‘amygdala hijack is a fight or flight response to fear…to dig deeper on this go here

  • There are many different types of fear including fear of the grouchy Saber Tooth Tiger, fear of failure, fear of rejection or fear that we’re just not enough – I am sure you have experienced one of these in your life - I have of course…well perhaps not the tiger…that I recall lol

  • Fear is a common current that runs through all of our lives, and if we let it, fear can keep us locked up in the prison of the comfortable and predictable, which of course prevents us from reaching our true potential - are you in this space right now?

  • I believe living in fear causes a double conundrum where you become unfulfilled with where you are at in life yet afraid to pursue anything better - ouch

  • But on the flip side - fear can also be our ally to help us move powerfully forward and break through frustration to achieve the life we desire

  • When we become complacent or comfortable, you can often pinpoint fear as a possible trigger - this may lead us to believe we are happy and fulfilled but when you start to notice that you are holding yourself back from opportunity or growth, it is time to dig a bit deeper

  • Here are a few signs that fear may be holding you back:

    • Procrastination

    • Perfectionism

    • Settling

    • Numbing yourself

  • This is a BIG topic and we are only scratching the surface with our witchy claws so if you want to explore this more please get in touch and I would love to explore it with you

  • Here are 10 strategies you can start exploring today:

    1. Determine the source of your fear and/or anxiety

    2. Recognize that life happens FOR you not TO you

    3. Stop the blame game & making excuses

    4. Turn your shoulds into MUSTS

    5. Keep developing your positive growth mindset!

    6. Obstacles and pain can offer valuable insights for growth

    7. Practice self-care including mindfulness & physical exercise

    8. Develop a positive and abundant mindset

    9. Live fully and present in your TODAY

    10. We all fail - accept it and keep going - it is your powerful gift

  • So next time you are facing a fear - ask yourself:

    • Do I know this to be 100% true?

    • What do I know that challenges these thoughts?

  • Happy Halloween and enjoy your scary evening of hair-raising tingles, blood curdling screams and inexplicable drafts that make you grab your keys and drive to a well-lit cosy cafe….just beware of red balloons and clowns….🤡
