Do You Have a Grounded Mindset?

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment"

The Grounded Mindset

  • What comes to mind when you think of ‘being grounded’?

  • I grew up in the 70s and 80s so part of me connects this to a new age sentiment - crystals and chanting mantras in an ashram, tofu and wild flower crowns, barefoot and happy, sunshine and smiles

  • Honestly though - this idea of ‘being grounded’ has withstood the test of time and decades later ‘being grounded’ is as important as breathing and as normalized as meditation and yoga classes

  • It is even more important now in our fast-paced and ever-changing world to feel overwhelmed and emotionally dysregulated

  • When we cultivate a sense of groundedness, we can find emotional regulation and navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience and grace

  • Merriam-Webster defines it as ‘being mentally and emotionally stable: admirably sensible, realistic, and unpretentious. Remains grounded despite all the praise and attention’

  • I think of it as being deeply and fully present and I feel the most grounded after a yoga session, a long walk or hike in nature, swimming, playing piano, painting, writing - what makes you feel grounded?

  • This also ties into emotional regulation which is crucial for our overall well-being and quality of life. It enables us to effectively manage stress, make rational decisions, maintain healthy relationships, and experience inner peace

  • Being emotionally regulated allows us to respond to challenges in a constructive manner rather than being overwhelmed by negative emotions - it took me along time to get to this place but I am happily here now - sometimes with a flower crown lol

  • The following are some sustainable ideas to help you feel grounded - let me know what works for you:

    • Live fully in the present - do not dwell on the past or think about the future - be intentional in remaining in today - be mindful, practice mindfulness and focus on what matters to you today

    • Accept your reality - see it for what it is and accept it with compassion and understanding. We can either choose to accept the truth of what we’re facing or we can ignore the severity of our problems and refuse to acknowledge the causes behind them

    • Slow down and be patient - learn to trust the process, take your time, slow your pace, achieve your goals in your time

    • Accept your whole self - embrace yourself as you are with all your weaknesses as well as your strengths - take off the mask, do not be an imposter, be open to vulnerability which will help you be more comfortable with who you are

    • Nurture meaningful and strong relationships - be part of your community, prevent loneliness, create a sense of belonging - our fixation with productivity and success leads many of us to neglect our relationships and feel isolated so nurture away!

    • Finally you can not be grounded if you are not in top top shape - stay active, do not sit for long periods, move frequently throughout the day, stretch - above all make it simple so you will actually move!

  • So enjoy the little things: practice gratitude by appreciating small moments of joy, such as a beautiful sunset or a warm cup of tea or a crackling fire and some hot chocolate. Engage your senses and fully experience the flavors, textures, and aromas of your favorite foods or beverages. Engage in quality entertainment that allows you to immerse yourself in a captivating storyline or characters. Stand still and listen to your surroundings such as birds chirping or the rustle of leaves in the wind. Visualize a daily task you enjoy or don’t mind doing

  • Remember that achieving and maintaining groundedness requires practice and patience - so be gentle with yourself and allow room for growth and stalls

  • What works for you? I am curious - let me know!
