Feedback, Criticism & Growth

This week I have been reflecting on feedback, criticism & growth as it relates to my personal feedback adventure from shadow to light from last weekend! It was kind of ouchy...

As I reflected on my experience, it got me thinking about how we approach feedback and criticism and how we can apply that to our mindsets from working inside the cosy camper!

  • In mindset terms - feedback is a mechanism which can either be taken as a personal attack (fixed mindset) where defences can go up, we may blame others, the reaction might be aggressive or feelings hurt and in the end no message would be taken from the information given, let alone acted on

  • On the flip side is the growth mindset where your perspective on feedback is more positive and helpful, where the feedback is received gratefully and listened to and often acted upon. A person with a growth mindset will be grateful because they are given information to support improvement and progress is more likely to occur and encourage the relationship and growth

  • I believe you have to approach feedback with the desire and courage to hear things that are challenging, and that you don’t necessarily want to hear

  • The greatest gift your friends, family and team can give you is to be honest, and that means not everything you hear is going to be positive — which is a very good thing - what do you think?

  • To close the loop at the end of the day you need to be sincere about receiving challenging feedback - you’ve got to take what you hear to heart and prove that you care by addressing it and making changes

  • Even if you don’t agree with what you hear, realize that like it or not what you heard is true for someone else - it is their experience from their perspective and it is worthwhile to put energy into improving that person’s experience xoxox

“Feedback is a free education to excellence. Seek it with sincerity and receive it with grace!”
